Finding the time

My biggest struggle recently is finding the time (and yes, sometimes motivation) to get off my butt and exercise. It does help to log my calories and exercise on an iphone app. And it certainly will help now that I have a half marathon to train for. But between work, my husband's work (which extends into non-business hours sometimes), our 5 year old and 3 year old, and my school...well it gets hard! Especially considering we also have to find time for my hubby to work out, as he is doing the half marathon as well!

Then you add in little extras..like in May for my (3oth....) birthday we are going to Vegas for a long weekend. I am SO freaking excited...it is going to be a low key sort of trip...we plan to go to Hoover Dam, chill at the pool, see some sights, gamble occasionally, and just kind of hang out. It is only our 2nd trip together in the 13 years we have been together. But then I have to wonder, how the heck am I going to motivate myself during that trip? The hotel has a super nice gym of course, but do I really want to be in a hotel gym when I could be out and about people watching or sight seeing or going to shows or shopping etc? I don't know...it will be interesting. The good thing is that in Vegas one tends to do a lot of walking, so if nothing else there is at least that. I am a little exited to return to Vegas 45 lbs lighter than the last time, when I went with my mother in law and 2 sister in laws.

So yeah...I will have to figure out what to do about fitness during my vacation. Luckily it's short anyhow...but it would be nice to get in a run of some sort while I am there. Just once...I will be just a month away from my half marathon at that point!

Half marathon - here I come!

So I officially made it through the half marathon lottery system and am registered. No turning back now...it would be a waste of a $75 registration fee!!!

Training starts next Monday!

45...FINALLY

So I finally hit 45 even, no need to round up or just say it because I'm "close enough". I weighed in this morning at 181.9 lbs. When I started this in January 2011, I was 227.

I am FREAKING EXCITED!!!! I hope I can keep it going and hit 50 soon!!!

I'm still kickin'

It has been busy to say the least, but I'm still here. Still with my same goals in mind. A quick update on my weight loss progress - as of this morning I am back to where I was at my low in the fall. That is, at a 44 lb loss total. It feels good, but this time I need to keep going and not get stuck again!

As far as fitness - my husband and I are officially signed up for a Get Lucky 7K next month for St. Patrick's day. In addition to being my longest race to date, you get a kick ass sweatshirt. The registration fee was a bit high, but it was worth it for a green sweatshirt that says "Get Lucky" on it!

In addition, both my husband and I (and sister in law) are entered into the lottery for entry into the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in June. This race is a part of the famous Grandma's Marathon weekend in Duluth, MN and I am super excited! I realize it's quite a big, scary jump from 7k to 13.1 miles, but there is no reason I can't do it, with a little training and dedication and determination. It still seems surreal that I am even entertaining the thought let alone signed up. I should say, entered into the lottery. Entrance is based on a lottery system and generally, 2 out of 3 people get chosen - so my odds are pretty good especially being that I am signed up with a group of people (and if one gets chosen, everyone does).

I have a training schedule ready to start March 5th. Until then I am just working on keeping a basic base of a few miles. I am proud to say I just finished a 5k on the treadmill (I have come to prefer outside, but it's snowy and cold and yucky, and gets dark early) and I did it in 33:31...I think that is my personal best....I will have to check on that.

So that's all - I will try to keep updated better. I think if I have something to say, other than "I'm still stuck", I will be more apt to post :-) So let's cross our fingers and toes that all goes well the next few weeks and I can kick this sh*t into high gear.

Juggling life

I have officially started classes, so juggling life has gotten exponentially more challenging the last two weeks. However I apparently thrive on having a lot on my plate, because the last few weeks I have lost 6 lbs...that is, out of the 8 lbs total I ended up gaining over the holidays.

While this was a major bump in the road, it feels good to know that I am overcoming it. Now that I am on a roll losing weight, I am hoping I can continue to stay on track and hit the 50 lb mark. I would like to do this by the end of February.

We'll see. There is no reason I can't do it...I've reached plenty of weight loss goals up until now. I can do it again. Right? Riiiight.....good luck to me!

If I want to be a "runner"....

If I want to be a "runner"....I need to get out and run...including races. Not that I am planning an actually racing any races, but I definitely want to run them.
Here are some possible races I might like to do.
March 17th - 7k
April 14th - 10 miles
June 16th - Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
July 2oth - 5 miles
Thanksgiving - 5k

I feel like maybe I am setting my sights too high...but then I wonder, why NOT?

A new year...

Happy 2012!
Obviously one of my resolutions is to continue losing weight. I would like to be close to or at goal by the end of the year. And so, I figured it would be a good time to remind myself of why I am doing what I am doing.

1. To be healthier - for myself and my family
2. To feel better
3. To look better
4. To feel proud and accomplished
5. To fit into cute clothes and look decent in them
6. So that I can run more, longer races and have fun doing it.

A motivator my mom bought me for Christmas this year is a pair of jeans that are too small. They don't even go over my ass, let alone button. These are jeans I have liked and wanted for ages...and they do sell plus sizes...but when I tried them on as a plus size, they looked like crap on me and I wasn't about to spend $90 on a pair of jeans that looked like crap on me. But you can bet your booty I am going to get into these eventually and when I do I will jump for joy!

I am counting calories again on my iphone app, Loseit! I plan to get back into a regular exercise schedule of 3-4 days per week. And I am going to kick.some.ass this year.
